About the Event

Renee Kirby interest in the visual arts started at an early age working on set designs for school plays and working with arts and crafts . While attending college, she landed a position as a picture framer apprentice at the Kent Studio Gallery in Upper Darby, Pa. and developed the passion and skills to preserve, design and display artwork. Growing up in West Philadelphia, her chance encounters with African American artists like Tom McKinney, Jonathan Pinkett, Jose Sanborne, Ellen Tiberino and Andrew Turner added both inspiration and value to the importance of preserving artist work to share with future generations. She established Westside Framing Studio in 1996 to focus on the preservation principles of art using quality materials and craftsmanship to enhance the presentation of artist work in Philadelphia. PRESENTATION INCLUDES:
  • The art of custom picture framing
  • Why custom picture framing is important to protect your art investment.
  • Collecting artwork (originals, open and limited editions)
  • Best practices for storing artwork.
  • The 3 natural elements in your home that damage artwork and how to avoid them.
  • Q & A (Everything you always wanted to ask about preserving and framing your artwork)
