About the Event
The Tiberino name resonates in the world of art for decades. The history of Ellen Powell Tiberino and Joseph Tiberino are well documented in the halls of museums, galleries, and private collections all over the world. Now we focus on the children of this amazing couple, Raphael, Ellen and Gabriel Tiberino. All accomplished artists in their own right.
The Tiberino Family, more than anything else, is a love story. The influence and nurturing of two extremely talented artists provided the lifestyle, atmosphere and backdrop for their talented offspring to blossom and flourish. Working in a variety of mediums, Raphael, Ellen and Gabriel are able to merge the old with the new. Through their eyes, we're able to see the ongoing legacy of their families contribution to the art world. This younger generation is able to speak in a style that's uniquely theirs but harkens back to the traditional style. The Legacy of Love continues...
"Tiberino: The Legacy Continues" Art Exhibit Closing Reception featuring works from the entire Tiberino Family will be held on Second Friday, October 14th 2022 from 5PM-8PM at Ultra Silk Gallery (3808 Lancaster Avenue Philadelphia PA 19139).
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Ellen Tiberino
Ellen Tiberino is a mosaic artist born and raised in West Philadelphia. She comes from a family of renowned visual artists. Ellen has exhibited in numerous galleries in Philadelphia and New York. Including the Sande Webster Gallery, Gallery 22, Rosemont College and the African American Museum. Ellen has conducted numerous mosaic workshops for different organizations including Mural Arts programs, Living Cities, People's Emergency Center and independently in different communities. Her work can be found in various collections. Ellen Tiberino’s work is inspired by her love of nature, travel and family.
Raphael Tiberino
Raphael Tiberino began painting at the age of four. The style of his latest work can be traced back to his love of comics as a child. He has been in the spotlight as a professional artist for over 25 years. As a co-founder of the Subculture Gallery in New York City, he curated as well as participated in many art shows as well as exhibiting and curating the "Kapow! Boom! Zap!" show, at the Rush Arts Gallery in Chelsea, NY. At that time, Raphael was illustrating "Queenie's Story", for Slave Labor Graphics. The story is based on haunting tales his grandmother shared with him as a child.
Teaching art is also a passion of Raphael's and he has been teaching off and on since graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His art resides in many collections. His preference of pen and ink, as well as his love of oil paint usually keeps him up until the wee hours of the morning.
Raphael is also the President of his family's museum. The Ellen Powell Tiberino Memorial Museum was set up by his late father Joseph in 1999. It houses an extensive collection of Ellen and Joe's artwork featuring oil paintings, prints, graphite drawings and relief murals. The museum also features the art of 20 other artists that Raphael and his father collected over the years. Known by the term "living museum", artists congregate outside its courtyard for painting sessions.
Gabe Tiberino
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1983, Gabe Tiberino is a visual artist who was truly born into art. At eighteen, Tiberino, scion of one of Philadelphia’s best-known art families, was probably the youngest lead artist on a Philadelphia Mural Arts project. By that age, Tiberino had already spent half of his life as a professional artist. At the age of eight, he had his first one man show in a South Street art gallery. After graduating from Philadelphia’s High School of Creative and Performing Arts, Tiberino graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2005. He has gone on to become lead muralist on murals in cities around the country, and acts as collaborator and assistant on countless others. Tiberino’s work has been in numerous one man and group art shows. Gabe Tiberino gives us visual images in various art forms, journalizing street experiences, thoughts, emotions and projected dreams. Tiberino’s art finds a personal connection which expands generations and generations to come.
